Monday Madness

Mad about accordion pleats!  My obsession with accordion pleats started when I saw Carrie Bradshaw aka Sarah Jessica Parker in that blue Halston Heritage dress.  That dress was so modern, fresh, chic and completely effortless partly because of the light fabric but mostly because of the pleats.  If you take way the pleats, then it’ll just look like a boring, blah dress.

This look is so easy to take from day to night in a flash; take a cue from these stylish gals.  From the uber fashionista SJP, who also wore it to the 2010 MET Ball, to Taylor Swift, the Duchess of Cambridge and first lady Michelle Obama, everyone seems to love these pleats.  Dress it down like Taylor for running errands, with a knit top and black pumps for work like the Duchess, or in a flashy fabric like Michelle O for a date night.  Below are some of my accordion pleats collection and also retailers where you can get yours.

Let me know if you love/hate accordion pleats.

This week’s trendy topic is on spring/summer’s biggest splash – NEON! From clothes, shoes, jewelry to make up and even hair, we are seeing neon everywhere. Though I am not afraid of wearing colors, I am very cautious of wearing neon. It’s just so “look at me” bright that I feel like it points out all my flaws, lol. So, I decided to try out this trend little by little; I started with jewelry first, then to tops, and finally to a dress (yes, the orange dress below is my only neon dress). I am still on the fence about wearing neon shoes (I like my shoes and bags to be neutral colors) but I am definitely not going to try neon make up (too bold for me, lol). Below are some of my favorite celebs rocking the neon trend and also two of my pictures to show you how I wore my neon.

First picture is a daytime look of me wearing an eyelet dress with neon pink necklace and I paired that with bright (not neon) yellow and pink bracelets. I think the neon adds some sass to the plain white dress.

Second picture is my version of doing neon at night; it’s me wearing my neon orange dress with black accessories and shoes. Since the dress is so bright, I decided to wear it with simple, understated jewelry and plain black belt and shoes to tame the outfit a little.

Let me know in the comments below what you think about wearing neon and how you styled it. Is there any other trend that you are currently obsessed with or would like me to talk about?

Below are some places where you can get neon:

Mad about denim shirts!!  Denim is the only item in my closet that I can wear year round in NY; from freezing cold to hot melting in the sun summer days, it never fails and is always fashionable.  So, why not add a denim shirt to your collection of must have staples?  I am pretty sure most of you have this item in your closet, or have been wearing it for years, and you must think it’s not really a staple if you can only wear it casually, since its denim. However, recent celeb outings will make you think otherwise.  Denim shirts have been showing up from red carpets to night out on the town.  It’s pretty much a neutral piece and can be dressed up or down depending on what you wear it with.

Night out:

Dress it up for night out by pairing it with fitted pencil skirt and sky high heels, like my fav fashionista Rihanna, or switch the pencil skirt with fitted leather pants/leggings like Kristin Cavallari for a girls night out. Another great night time option is tucking it in colored pants, (choose cotton sateen pants) like Rachel Roy for a dinner date.

Denim on denim is a great look for daytime, as long as you pair it light & dark (light shirt with dark denim or vice versa).  See how Ashley Olsen wears it with dark denim skinny jeans and Katie Holmes wears it with dark denim bell-bottoms (you can switch the bell-bottoms with denim trousers for a more dressed up daytime look).  Wear it with any type of shorts or mini skirts (denim on denim & I know you fash lovers have worn it with shorts/minis before) for running errands like Vanessa Hudgens and Anne Hathaway respectively.

Colored and floral printed denim are very trendy now.  See how Khloe K. wears her fiery red jeans with denim shirt (and leopard, I love leopard).  Rihanna & Katie Holmes are back again showing us how they paired their floral pants with denim shirt.  Maxi skirts are also another summer fav and trendy now; see how Drew Barrymore styled her shirt with long, ruffled skirt, totally casual chic (a dressy option for daytime)!!  Lastly, we have Jenna Dewan-Tatum who is wearing her denim shirt with printed maxi skirt for very casual look great for running errands or strolling hand in hand with your love enjoying a great summer day.

Let me know how you guys style your denim shirts in the comments below.

Today’s trendy report is about Peter Pan Collar.  I thought this one was a little young when I first saw it and that I would look ridiculous wearing this trend.  But then I saw celebs of all ages wearing it (from Hailey Steinfield 15, Naya Rivera 25, to Natalie Portman 31) and realized it’s something I can def try, w/out looking like I am trying to be 12.  So, I decided to give it a shot and was surprised at how much I liked it!!  I bought two different type of shirts, first is a light pink chiffon (yes, of course, I bought chiffon, lol, I am obsessed with it!!!) and the second one is a dressy nudey/taupey color with silver spots on it.  I have yet to buy a Peter Pan collared dress since I already bought 2 tops, trying to save some $$$; let’s see may be soon I can get one.

Below you will see pictures of how I styled each shirt:

The pink one I wore with black dressy shorts for work and paired it with pastel colored earrings, bangles, patent skinny belt and shoes (a little black against black contrast, I thought the patent would stand out more than leather since the pants were black).  If your work has a stricter dress policy, you can switch the shorts with pencil skirt or long cotton sateen pants and a black linen blazer (cotton sateen and linen will keep you cool but they are still dressy enough for work). I also wore this same shirt to a BBQ recently (not pictured, I didn’t take any, big oops) with light blue jeans shorts and matching pink flats with bows (yes I like bows too, lol, so girly, it always makes me happy), and same jewelry.  So, it’s a very versatile top, probably because it’s made of Chiffon, ha!!

The nude/taupe one is a little dressier so I wore it with darker washed skinny jeans for a casual date night with the hubby or a girls night out.  Paired it with black satin pumps for extra shot of hotness and kept the jewelry silver matching with the silver spots (I wore a rounder shaped earrings to mimic the shape of the silver spots on the shirt).

Let me know what you guys think about this trend, if you have tried or will try.  Are there any other trends now that you are loving/hating or want me to talk about?

Today’s madness confession is about one of my favorite fabrics, CHIFFON!! I absolutely love any type of clothing made out of chiffon (or the cheaper, very similar stepsister 100% polyester).
It’s so versatile; from office to running errands to weddings or formal dinners, you can wear chiffon outfits anywhere because it’s so easy to dress up or down. It’s very flattering on most body type since it doesn’t cling on like jersey, wear out like cotton, or puffy like tulle. It also mellows out the loud colors like neon, red and fuchsia to make it more wearable for all.

Below are few pictures of me in chiffon (or the stepsister, lol), two long ones I wore for formal dinner dates, one to do a tour in Greece (so much history, loved that tour), and the last one to party in Vegas for my bachelorette (o yea, fun times!!!).

If you already don’t have anything chiffon in your closet, then what are you waiting for? Run, don’t walk, to the nearest mall and get some to add to your fabulous closet. Clothing made out of chiffon are available in any price point and trust me, this is a purchase you won’t regret.

You can find Chiffon at the following retailers
