What-To-Do Wednesday: Fall Beauty

featured-wednesday
With the changing season, our skin care routine changes and so does our makeup routine.  I usually go for darker, bolder lips and purple/plum or smokey brown eyes during fall/winter.  Here are few YouTube videos I am trying to imitate and thought I share.  Enjoy!

What-To-Do Wednesday: False Lashes

featured-wednesday
So, I have been trying to learn how to put on fake lashes by myself, individual and strips, and having a hard time.  Then I decided to see some tutorials to get some help; it is working but it still takes me a long time to put them on.  I thought I share with you the tutorials I am using in hopes that it may help you guys as well.  I use DUO glue and ELF and Ardell lashes because they are cheap and since I am just learning, I don’t want to use expensive lashes. Once I am a pro though, I am definitely going to get some M.A.C lashes.  Enjoy and let me know if you have your own trick to putting on falsies fast!

Saturday Splurge vs. Steal

featured_gallery_sat

This week’s topic is on my must have makeup product – EYELINER.  I must, must wear my cat eyes or winged eyeliner every time I put on make up; without it I feel naked.  My personal favorite is liquid version for everyday and gel if I am going to a party, I wore gel for my wedding because its drier and more matte so it doesn’t budge easily (in case I cried but I didn’t).  I always mess up the pencil one by rubbing my eye and it runs a little because my eyelids gets oily.  Below are my recommendation for pencil, liquid and gel in both low and high price.  Happy shopping and TGIF!!

Pencil
BH Cosmetics – Waterproof Eyeliner in Onyx

At $2.37 it’s the most affordable liner I have ever used but the quality is great. It’s creamy and pigmented so it glides on the lid and you can easily blend it for a smokey look; but it does run a little if you have oily skin, so have to use a primer first.  It’s easily removable by soap or makeup remover.

M.A.C Cosmetics Technakohl Liner in Graphblack

$15 but I have the retractable one so no sharpener needed.  The texture is creamy for smooth, no tug application.  It’s color is rich and easily blendable.  But its hard to take off with just soap, you must use makeup remover and then soap to get it completely off.  Even with everyday use, it’ll last a while.

Liquid
L’Oreal Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Black

$10 and you can get it at any drugstore.  It has felt tip so it’s easy to apply and the color is intense and matte.  But since it’s liquid, it’s not ideal for smudging but it dries fast and easily removable with water.  So, if you make a mistake, just dip Q-Tip into water or makeup remover to clean up that also means it can get smudgy if you cry or get wet in the rain/snow.  I have been using this since I was 14 and I have no complaints so far.

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in Black

$15 but it’s like a marker so it’s much easier to apply than the felt tip version.  If you are new to liquid eyeliner, then I recommend this one for you; it’s like coloring your upper eyelid, super easy.  The color is great though I find the L’Oreal one a little bit more darker and it’s last all day without any smudging if you don’t shed any tears.  It’s easily removable with soap or makeup remover so you don’t have to stress about making mistakes.

Gel
Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Blackest Black

$10 and can be found at any drugstore.  The pot is small, so is most gel liner pots, but it comes with an eyeliner brush.  I don’t really like the brush; I apply it using my Sonia Kashuk brush.  The gel is very pigmented and matte once it dries so it stays put even through tears!  It’s soft and creamy so easy to apply but dries really fast so be sure to fix any mistakes quickly.  Easily removable with soap or makeup remover; I would say it’s ideal for parties or long days/nights in the heat cause it won’t smudge.

Bobbie Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink

$22 can be bought at any department stores carrying the line or Sephora
The pigmentation is great, smooth application and dries fast, but not as fast as Maybelline so you don’t need to rush to get it perfect.  It’s very matte once dry but the color still looks very rich and dark (kind of like liquid eyeliner).  It comes in a small pot without any brushes so you have to buy a separate liner brush.  It stays put through heat and oiliness; ideal for hot summer days or nights.  Overall it’s a great eyeliner and definitely Splurge Approved!

Many of you might not know how to put on liquid or gel liners yet so below is a great YouTube video to show you how and also links to where you can purchase all the liners in this post.

What-To-Do Wednesday: Natural Makeup Routine

featured_gallery-wednesday

What are the steps for natural everyday makeup?

I am always looking through YouTube videos to find easy and simple ways to do natural makeup for everyday. Here are few that I really like and thought I share with you. Enjoy!!

These are the two I follow when I go to a daytime event like showers or birthday parties, both with Urban Decay’s Naked pallet. If you don’t have the pallets, you can use any combo of gold/bronze/dark brown shadow you have.

Saturday Steal vs. Splurge

featured_gallery_sat

This week’s splurge vs. steal is about the very alluring and forever sexy red lips and its bff the red lipstick!  It’s the one lip color that will always be trendy, universally flattering, since there are various shades of red, and appealing to both men and women.  It’s also the best five minute makeup routine for those busy mornings; all you need is tinted moisturizer, some concealer, curled lashes and red lips and you are done!!  Below are the two that I recommend and also added tips on how to apply it and how to find the right red lipstick for your skin tone.

Steal:

Sonia Kashuk’s Velvety Matte Lip Crayon in Rosey Nude

Claims
My Opinion
  • $7.59 at any Target stores or target.com
  • Creamy texture
  • Easy glide on application
  • Won’t feel dry on the lips
  • Rich pigmented color
  • Extra long wear
  • Contains fig aroma
  • Comes in five other shades
  • Price is amazing
  • it is creamy & easy to apply; no need to buy matching lip liner, can use the crayon to line the lips and then fill in with color
  • the texture is matte but it doesn’t dry my lips
  • color is very pigmented but with light strokes, it will appear light and looks great with lip gloss (if you want a glossy red lip); I would say its orangey red
  • the crayon is a good size so even with daily use, it will last a while
  • color didn’t last long, I had to reapply a couple of times at work
  • the “aroma” is awful, I don’t like the smell at all, its actually smells like chemicals

Final thought:

h

Even if the smell is not good and I had to reapply, it has other good qualities.  It’s a great red lipstick for my collection and an amazing product for the price.

VS.

Splurge:

M.A.C Cosmetics Lipstick in Ruby Woo

Claims
My Opinion
  • $15 at any M.A.C stores of department stores that carries the brand
  • Velvety texture
  • Vivid blue-red color
  • Matte
  • It comes in a lot of different shades and textures (glossy, matte, satin, etc.)
  • price is a little high for the a tube of lipstick, especially since I use it with a $15 lip liner, so spent $30 total
  • color is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I think this lipstick will look good on any skin tone and it’s a true blue-red
  • very, very matte, so it’s hard to apply on dry lips, must use lip primer or on moisturized lips and make sure lips are scrubbed so the color will appear smooth
  • it does dry out my lip a bit
  • it’s hard to use as a liner, even with lip brush the line is not that pronounced; I use it with M.A.C’s Cherry lip liner
  • color lasts long, I only had to reapply after I ate food
  • as I have said before, it’s a very matte lipstick which means it doesn’t transfer on clothes, other people (when you kiss, so it’s husband/boyfriend proof, lol) or teeth, yay!
  • I never tried it with a gloss, but I am sure it will look just as divine glossy as it does matte
  • a tube of this will last long since reapplication is not need that much
  • it does have a light smell, but I don’t hate and it doesn’t bother me

Final thought:

Even though I spent $30 just for this lipstick and liner and it does dry out my lips a little, it’s the best, bright colored red lipstick I found so far that actually looks great on my skin.  I love it and if you have the money for it, then definitely get yourself a tube.

Below is where you can get Sonia Kashuk and M.A.C.  Also I added a great video on how to apply red lipstick and link to a post on how to find your perfect red lips.

Let me know what you guys think about these two.  If you have a great one that you use, please let me know.
