What-To-Do Wednesday: Natural Makeup Routine

What are the steps for natural everyday makeup?

I am always looking through YouTube videos to find easy and simple ways to do natural makeup for everyday. Here are few that I really like and thought I share with you. Enjoy!!

These are the two I follow when I go to a daytime event like showers or birthday parties, both with Urban Decay’s Naked pallet. If you don’t have the pallets, you can use any combo of gold/bronze/dark brown shadow you have.

Saturday Steal vs. Splurge

This week’s splurge vs. steal is about the very alluring and forever sexy red lips and its bff the red lipstick!  It’s the one lip color that will always be trendy, universally flattering, since there are various shades of red, and appealing to both men and women.  It’s also the best five minute makeup routine for those busy mornings; all you need is tinted moisturizer, some concealer, curled lashes and red lips and you are done!!  Below are the two that I recommend and also added tips on how to apply it and how to find the right red lipstick for your skin tone.

Sonia Kashuk’s Velvety Matte Lip Crayon in Rosey Nude

My Opinion
  • $7.59 at any Target stores or
  • Creamy texture
  • Easy glide on application
  • Won’t feel dry on the lips
  • Rich pigmented color
  • Extra long wear
  • Contains fig aroma
  • Comes in five other shades
  • Price is amazing
  • it is creamy & easy to apply; no need to buy matching lip liner, can use the crayon to line the lips and then fill in with color
  • the texture is matte but it doesn’t dry my lips
  • color is very pigmented but with light strokes, it will appear light and looks great with lip gloss (if you want a glossy red lip); I would say its orangey red
  • the crayon is a good size so even with daily use, it will last a while
  • color didn’t last long, I had to reapply a couple of times at work
  • the “aroma” is awful, I don’t like the smell at all, its actually smells like chemicals

Final thought:

Even if the smell is not good and I had to reapply, it has other good qualities.  It’s a great red lipstick for my collection and an amazing product for the price.

M.A.C Cosmetics Lipstick in Ruby Woo

My Opinion
  • $15 at any M.A.C stores of department stores that carries the brand
  • Velvety texture
  • Vivid blue-red color
  • Matte
  • It comes in a lot of different shades and textures (glossy, matte, satin, etc.)
  • price is a little high for the a tube of lipstick, especially since I use it with a $15 lip liner, so spent $30 total
  • color is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I think this lipstick will look good on any skin tone and it’s a true blue-red
  • very, very matte, so it’s hard to apply on dry lips, must use lip primer or on moisturized lips and make sure lips are scrubbed so the color will appear smooth
  • it does dry out my lip a bit
  • it’s hard to use as a liner, even with lip brush the line is not that pronounced; I use it with M.A.C’s Cherry lip liner
  • color lasts long, I only had to reapply after I ate food
  • as I have said before, it’s a very matte lipstick which means it doesn’t transfer on clothes, other people (when you kiss, so it’s husband/boyfriend proof, lol) or teeth, yay!
  • I never tried it with a gloss, but I am sure it will look just as divine glossy as it does matte
  • a tube of this will last long since reapplication is not need that much
  • it does have a light smell, but I don’t hate and it doesn’t bother me

Final thought:

Even though I spent $30 just for this lipstick and liner and it does dry out my lips a little, it’s the best, bright colored red lipstick I found so far that actually looks great on my skin.  I love it and if you have the money for it, then definitely get yourself a tube.

Below is where you can get Sonia Kashuk and M.A.C.  Also I added a great video on how to apply red lipstick and link to a post on how to find your perfect red lips.

Let me know what you guys think about these two.  If you have a great one that you use, please let me know.

Friday Fab Finds

This edition of fab find is all about makeup brushes.  I use to think makeup brushes were waste of money because I could easily do their job with my own fingers for free.  That is until I actually went to do my makeup by a professional and saw how flawless my face looked after she used brushes to put foundation and concealer on me and how perfectly smokey my eyes looked after she finished.  Yes, I know she was a professional that’s probably why my make up looked so good, but she actually let me do one side of my face, foundation only, to show me the difference of application by fingers and brush; that’s how I was convinced and decided to get myself a set of brushes.  But since I couldn’t afford to get the brushes she was selling, I did some online research and found E.L.F. Cosmetics 11 pc studio brush set.

These brushes are affordable, at most you will pay $30 for 11 brushes, and very good quality.  They are soft, apply and pick up make up well and have little to no shedding.  All the brushes are easy to hold and each brush has the right amount of bristles and perfectly sized for its purpose.  They come in a waterproof case which is great for storing the brushes or taking when travelling.  They are easy to clean with dishwashing liquid or brush cleaners and dries fast.  But the only minor issue is that I have to reshape each brush to its original size while the bristles are still wet or they spread out after they dry (but this is normal for most makeup brushes).  I have them for two years now and use them very often but not one is broken or worn out yet, impressive!!  Below is the list of brushes this set comes with and also retailers where you can purchase.  Happy shopping & TGIF!!

Let me know in the comments below what you think of these brushes if you have used them already or if you have another great affordable line of brushes you use.

 Set includes:

  • Eyeshadow “C” Brush
  • Complexion Brush
  • Small Angled Brush
  • Small Smudge Brush
  • Fan Brush
  • Powder Brush
  • Angled Foundation Brush
  • Concealer Brush
  • Small Precision Brush
  • Blush Brush
  • Contouring Brush
  • & Water-resistant case
