Mrs. Obama

12213

Hi Everyone,

I know I haven’t posted in a while, just been super lazy, sorry.  Anyway, Happy 2013 and congrats to our President Mr. Obama on his second term at the White House!  Speaking of which, today’s post will be about our very fashionable first lady, Mrs. Obama.  While I am happy about the president being re-elected, I am mostly excited to see four more years of fashionable outfits from Mrs. O and also Sasha and Malia.  Now that they are growing into their teen years, I cannot wait to see how they will change their looks.

Below are Mrs. O’s and the kids’ outfits from the inauguration from 2009 and yesterday.  I loved Mrs. O’s green outfit from 2009 for the swearing in and the parade but I loved her red Jason Wu ball gown from last night’s inaugural ball.  Which one is your favorite?

Mad about Ikat!!! Yes, I am completely in love with Ikat print. I like the repetition of the pattern and its a great alternative to wearing florals or stripes (though floral Ikat print is available). This print not only looks good in clothes, it’s looks great on shoes and home decorating items like lamp shades, cups/plates and pillows. It comes in various colors and if you are wearing it, then it easily goes from day to night. See how Katie Holmes and Khloe K. wears it casually during the day and Kristen Bell and Rachel Zoe dresses it up for night. Finally, our first lady shows us how to wear it for work. Below are some Ikat print items that you can get for yourself.

Retailers:

Mad about accordion pleats!  My obsession with accordion pleats started when I saw Carrie Bradshaw aka Sarah Jessica Parker in that blue Halston Heritage dress.  That dress was so modern, fresh, chic and completely effortless partly because of the light fabric but mostly because of the pleats.  If you take way the pleats, then it’ll just look like a boring, blah dress.

This look is so easy to take from day to night in a flash; take a cue from these stylish gals.  From the uber fashionista SJP, who also wore it to the 2010 MET Ball, to Taylor Swift, the Duchess of Cambridge and first lady Michelle Obama, everyone seems to love these pleats.  Dress it down like Taylor for running errands, with a knit top and black pumps for work like the Duchess, or in a flashy fabric like Michelle O for a date night.  Below are some of my accordion pleats collection and also retailers where you can get yours.

Let me know if you love/hate accordion pleats.

Retailers:
Forever 21 skirt
Topshop top
Kohls dress
Asos dress
